SPACE

Space 2D

looking at two dimensional shapes, looking at plane shapes (i.e. ones that occupy a flat surface)

Space 3D

looking at three dimensional or solid shapes

Line of Symmetry

the line that divides a shape in half so that each side is the mirrored image of the other.

Net

A flat shape that can be folded to make a 3D shape e.g. the sheet of cardboard that folds to make a carton.

Tessellations

identical shapes that fit snugly together to form a pattern e.g. tiles on the bathroom floor or pavers.

TRIANGLES

NAME OF TRIANGLE

PROPERTIES

SHAPE

Right angled triangle

one angle - 90°

Acute angled triangle

all angles less than 90°

Obtuse angled triangle

one angle > 90° but
less than 180°

Isosceles triangle

2 sides equal
2 angles equal

Equilateral triangle

all sides equal
all angles 60°

Scalene triangle

no equal sides
no equal angles

2D SHAPES

Two-dimensional (2D) shapes - plane shapes are two dimensional. They have length and width.
Polygon - a plane shape with three or more straight sides such as a triangle, quadrilateral, a pentagon etc.
